•   Award won in the ‘Top Organisation in Designs’ category

•   CG files and registers approx. 147 designs per year of which around 100 are commercialised

•   Chosen among 27 other contenders

Mumbai, April 28, 2014: Avantha Group Company CG was awarded the National Intellectual Property
(IP) Award, 2014, in the category of ‘Top Organisation in Designs’. The award was presented on April 26th 2014, World IP Day, jointly organised by the Indian Intellectual Property Office and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

CG was chosen for this award among 27 other contenders filing design applications in  India. The company was awarded for its overall Design Portfolio developed and commercialised over the past five years for products manufactured in India and other geographies. On an average, CG files and registers approximately 147 designs every year, of which approximately 100 are commercialised.

This award is presented to innovators of IP who play a role in harnessing India’s intellectual capital and create an ecosystem that gives a fillip to innovation and creativity. The winner was selected not only based on the number of Intellectual Property Rights registered or granted, but on the basis of the utilisation of the IP Rights (IPR) as a strategic tool in commerce and  industry and their overall contribution to the society.

CG’s business growth strategy pivots on providing innovative and high‐technology solutions for customers across industries. CG has invested nearly Rs 400 million in a world class infrastructure to enhance its R&D capabilities to achieve global excellence in the UHV domain. This Research Centre is not only unique in India; it’s part of the top five Research Centres in this sector, in the world. CG substation to help E.ON supply Renewable energy to 300,000 homes

20/05/2014 13:11
•   Will displace more than 740,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually
•   CG designed and supplied all critical high voltage power equipment
•   Innovative AC/AC connecting technology to reduce cost and maintenance

Avantha Group Company CG, announced the successful installation of its transformer substation at the Amrumbank West offshore wind farm. The renewable energy unit consists of 80 multi-megawatt wind turbines located 100 km off the German coast in the North Sea. The Amrumbank West offshore wind farm (which was completed along with CG’s consortium partners Fabricom GDF Suez, Iemants and GeoSea) is scheduled to enter service in the autumn of 2015. The wind farm extends over 32 square kilometres, and its 80 technologically advanced 3.6 MW turbines will give it a total capacity of 288 MW, enough to power 300,000 households.

Amrumbank West will displace more than 740,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually. Amrumbank West GmbH (AWG) is a 100% subsidiary of E.ON Climate & Renewables Central Europe GmbH. E.ON, based in North Rhine-Westphalia and Germany, is currently the world’s third-largest operator of offshore wind farms and one of the world’s largest investor-owned electric utility service providers.

CG designed, engineered, supplied and integrated all critical high voltage power equipment to connect the 33 kV and 155 kV networks, including power transformers, high and medium voltage switchgear as well as protection and automation equipment. The solution includes an innovative AC/AC connection link for offshore wind farms developed by CG. The technology, already in use at other platforms on the North Sea such as the Belwind wind farm, has minimal weight and low cost, and is designed for optimal and minimal maintenance compared with traditional high voltage AC or DC solutions.

In the operational phase, the transformer substation will gather electricity generated from the 80 turbines, transform the voltage to 155 kV, and transmit it to the HelWin converter station. From here, the power will be transmitted to the electricity grid operated by TenneT TSO GmbH. The transformer substation will be operated from the wind farm’s service station on Helgoland, and will be monitored and controlled from E.ON’s Offshore Marine Coordination Center in Hamburg. The transformer station is raised on a foundation that is anchored to the seabed, aside from a topside structure, which holds the transformers and electrical switching equipment. The facility also boasts a helipad which is built 42 metres above sea level.

Offshore wind is a major component of Europe’s target to harness 20 percent of its energy from renewable sources. Currently, there are 11 offshore wind farms under construction representing about 3 GW in power generation capacity. In the pipeline are projects amounting to 22 Gigawatt capacity, which have received the go-ahead to be built and developed. (Source: EWEA 2013 Annual report)

Commenting on the order, Avantha Group Company CG’s CEO and Managing Director, Laurent Demortier, said: “Renewable energy solutions are a key focus area for CG. The Amrumbank West offshore wind farm is an outstanding engineering feat, and we are delighted to be playing a major role in its development and implementation. Our customer-centric solutions are designed to suit local conditions and follow global benchmarks. We thank E.ON for the trust placed in CG and are very proud to provide E.ON with our energy efficient CG technology for offshore wind farm connections.”

CG’s Innovative Offshore Technology to Power 370,000 Households

20/05/2014 13:07
  •     To connect the 33 kV and 155 kV networks of the Butendiek project
  •     To deliver and integrate all critical power equipment
  •     Provide innovative AC/AC connecting technology to reduce cost and maintenance

Avantha Group Company CG has successfully performed the marine load-out of a high-voltage offshore substation, part of the German “Butendiek” offshore wind farm project for Western Power Distribution (WPD) offshore solutions GmbH; thus achieving an important milestone. The Butendiek offshore substation was successfully loaded onto the sea barge in Hoboken, Antwerp.  Installation will now be completed and the substation will be commissioned offshore. The 288 MW wind farm consists of 80 turbines of 3.6 MW each, and will supply renewable energy to 370,000 households. It is situated in the German North Sea, approximately 32 km to the West of the island of Sylt, in shallow water depth of 19–22 meters and favourable soil conditions. Built by CG, the substation will ensure grid connection with grid operator TenneT TSO via the SylWin-Cluster.

CG won the contract from WPD offshore solutions GmbH, a leading developer of wind farms globally, to design, engineer and supply the offshore high voltage substation in 2011. CG is delivering and integrating all critical power equipment such as power transformers, high and medium voltage switchgear, and auxiliary reactors and transformers to connect the 33 kV and 155 kV networks of the Butendiek project. The substation at Butendiek is the most complex component of the plant; it provides complete redundancy and protection against failure, ensuring that no wind turbine is adversely impacted.

CG’s connecting technology was chosen for this project due to its high reliability, superior performance and cost effectiveness. This solution includes an innovative AC/AC connection link for offshore wind farms developed by CG. The technology has already been deployed in other platforms in the North Sea, such as the Belwind and Northwind offshore wind farms. Its advantages include minimal weight and lower costs, and is designed for reduced but optimal maintenance compared with traditional high-voltage AC/DC solutions.

Offshore wind is a major component of Europe’s target to harness 20 percent of its energy from renewable sources. Currently, there are 11 offshore wind farms under construction representing about 3 GW in power generation capacity. 23/04/2014 10:36

•   Design, procurement, engineering and installation completed
•   Showcases capability in meeting semiconductor industry demand
•   Strengthens relationship for next phase of the plant expansion

Avantha Group Company CG has successfully designed, engineered, installed, tested and commissioned a substation expansion including two 45/75 MVA power transformers for the GlobalFoundries’ Fab 8 computer chip manufacturing complex in Malta, New York.

CG’s power transformers will ensure a continuous, reliable power supply at Global Foundries’ Malta plant, which has a 300,000‐square‐foot clean room, a fabrication area approaching one million square feet, and a workforce of more than 2,000.

CG was selected for this important project because of the company’s ability to provide a total solution
EPC approach to a project that had a compact construction schedule.

After successfully designing, procuring and installing the original transmission lines and substation during the initial construction phase of the Fab 8 plant in 2009‐10, CG has remained a valued‐added partner with GlobalFoundries. The current project places the company in a favorable position to provide turnkey Transmission and Distribution (T&D) solutions, including post‐project services, for the next phase of the Global Foundries Malta fabrication plant, which is expected to be completed in 2014.

The market size for power transformers in the U.S.is estimated to reach 4640 Mn USD by 2018. It is growing at an estimated CAGR of 6% and this market is just 18% of the global power transformer market.*

In the US, CG has Manufacturing Units, Sales Offices and Service Facilities in Washington (Missouri), Springfield (New Jersey), Albany and Rochester (New York), Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. The company has successfully completed over 300 projects in 34 US states and 14 foreign countries, ranging from 2.4 kV class to 765 kV class. It is responsible for interconnecting 22% of wind power in the United States.

Commenting on the completion of this project, Avantha Group Company CG’s CEO and Managing Director Laurent Demortier said: “The completion of this project marks the continuing diversification of CG into industrial markets. We thank GlobalFoundries and their General Contractor for renewing their trust in CG and we look forward to strengthening our relationship as a long‐standing partner, able to supply high‐quality, durable power equipment that meets their needs for a reliable power source.”

CG wins USD 29 million order to upgrade the Indonesian Electricity grid

23/04/2014 10:33

CG wins USD 29 million order to upgrade the  Indonesian Electricity grid

∙  Transformers to be manufactured in CG’s state‐of‐the‐art factory at Bogor, Indonesia
∙  New order will reduce PT PLN’s import dependence
∙  Order consolidates CG’s position in South‐East Asian market

Avantha Group Company CG’s Power Transformer plant at Indonesia has won an order worth USD 29 million from PT PLN Indonesia to supply Extra High Voltage transformers for its Indonesian electricity transmission network. The order involves supply of 500kV,275kV and 150kV power transformers, which will be installed across PT PLN’s transmission network in Java and Sumatra islands.

PT PLN (Perusahaan Listrik Negara) is the sole Indonesian government‐owned corporation in electricity generation, transmission and distribution in Indonesia.Through   deployment of CG’s power transformers, PT PLN will be able to lessen its dependence on import of heavy equipment, while simultaneously executing timely implementation of its transmission network strengthening programme.

CG’s power transformers maximise space utility with their compact design and achieve optimum energy efficiency through low levels of losses. The reduced degree of noise and partial discharge also make the transformers a preferred choice for strengthening transmission networks.

The manufacturing of the new orders from PT PLN will be undertaken at CG’s world‐class transformer factory located in Bogor,Indonesia. The facility is equipped to  design, manufacture and test transformers up to 550kV class locally in Indonesia.

The new order shows increased trust by PT PLN in CG’s manufacturing expertise in this segment and will further bolster its position as a key provider of high‐voltage transformers in the South East Asian market. The order comes on the back of CG’s successful completion of a similar first order in September
2013.

Speaking about the latest order, Avantha Group Company CG’s CEO & Managing Director, Laurent Demortier, said: “I would like to thank PT PLN Indonesia for placing its continued trust in CG’s energy products and technological expertise in the Ultra High Voltage (UHV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) segments. Indonesia is a key strategic geography for CG, and the order sanctions the large investment done to bring state‐of‐the‐art EHV solutions to the country. CG will be able to exclusively cater to the localised needs of PT PLN through its exhaustive range of power transformers in Indonesia. In line with CG’s export strategy the Indonesian plant will cater to markets such as Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and South America.”

Inflation targeting may keep rates elevated in CY 15

23/04/2014 10:31

Statement by Mr.Yogesh Agarwal, MD and CEO of Avantha Group Company BILT

Inflation targeting may keep rates elevated in CY 15

•  Inflation targeting may prolong high interest rate cycle for CY 15
•  Growth and investment to be casualties of inflation targeting
•  Elections, monsoon factors likely to act as policy trigger points
•  See rates remaining elevated throughout most of CY 15

“We welcome the RBI’s move to keep the repo rate and the CRR on hold though a slash in the repo rate by atleast 25 bps would have brought in some positive momentum to the economy and added to the current market cheer.

While the RBI seems to be veering towards targeting consumer price inflation as its dominant guidepost, I believe this may result in a prolonged period of high rates this calendar without any real dampening of inflationary pressures. That’s because core consumer price inflation does not respond well to monetary measures. In such a situation, growth and investments could be casualties in an already fragile environment.

Going forward, much depends on non economic factors such as the elections which will be the main trigger come May. Risk of an El‐Nino exerting upward pressure on food prices can’t also be ruled out. Inflation, both CPI and WPI have come off their highs but if it stays the course even at these levels, then rates will not come down before the latter half of the current calendar year, if at all”.
